Turmeric, or haldi It's Curcuma longa, and across India it's haldi, the yellow powder in more or less every kitchen. Ayurveda calls it a warming herb, which is why it has always been taken with something warm, whether that is water, honey, milk or ghee. It has been grown there far longer than it has been on a shelf here. Why we use the whole root We use the whole root, ground into a powder. It's dug, dried and steam sterilised in India before grinding, and the powder that fills the capsule is the entire root, natural oils and all. That is the form Ayurveda has always used, and much the same thing you would be eating if you cooked with it. What is in each capsule 670mg of that root powder in every capsule, with organic ginger and organic black pepper alongside. The black pepper is there to help the body absorb the curcuminoids in turmeric, a traditional pairing that modern science has since gone on to explain. The ginger is turmeric's closest relative, the same plant family and the same part of the plant, and it is there for warmth and for digestion.
